ASES Registration

ASES Program Registration

New Student Enrollment for Grades 6-8 for the 2025-2026 school year does not automatically enroll students in the After School Education and Safety (ASES) before and/or after school program. A separate application process for ASES is required for all new students.

New applications to the ASES program are centrally managed by the District Office, Before/After School Department through a single application and interest list. Information on how to apply for ASES for the 2026-2027 school year, will be available on the ASES webpage shortly.

Submitting an application for ASES does not guarantee participation in the program. It is anticipated that the demand for the ASES program will exceed the program capacity at most schools. Should a site be determined near capacity for ASES enrollment, a lottery process may be necessary to determine new student placement in the program.

Students in Grades 6-8 participating in the ASES program during the current school year, will be considered "continuing students" and will not need to re-apply. Information for continuing ASES students for the 2026-2027 school year, will be available on the ASES webpage shortly. New, incoming siblings of current ASES students are considered "new" for registration purposes and will need to complete the ASES Interest Application for 2026-2027.

Students in Grades 6-8 currently on an ASES waitlist for the program must apply as a new student to the program for the 2026-2027 school year.

Please visit the Poway Unified website for information on completing the registration process, including the link for AMS Interest.

ALL ASES Programs are full for 2025-2026.  Please complete the application to be placed on the waitlist.

Students currently attending ASES will register in the spring – see each school’s website or check with the site coordinator.  Depending on the number of openings, students may register for the program or be placed on a waitlist. Additionally, students may register throughout the school year if there are openings; and if the program is full, students will be waitlisted.  Please contact [email protected]

Purpose and Objectives

The After School Education and Safety (ASES) Program is designed to provide literacy, academic enrichment, and safe constructive alternatives for students.

Program Elements

The ASES program is aligned with the regular school day. A safe physical and emotional environment and opportunities for relationship-building are provided. The following two elements are incorporated in the program’s academic support and enrichment activities:

  1. An educational and literacy element provides homework assistance and academic support to help students meet state standards in reading/language arts, mathematics, social studies, and science. A broad range of activities are based on students’ needs and interests.
  2. An education enrichment element offers a variety of additional programs and activities that reinforce and compliment the school’s academic program. This includes positive youth development strategies and prevention activities that may utilize visual and performing arts, community service-learning, recreation and physical activity, health/nutritional promotion, career awareness and work preparation activities based on student needs and interests.

Program Structure

ASES activities, based on above program elements, are organized on a four to six-week rotation and are posted on an activities calendar. Students select their activities from the daily schedule.  Academic support is provided for all students and activities reflect students’ interests in sports, recreation, technology, arts and crafts, gardening, food and nutrition, and other areas. The daily schedule includes a snack based on state nutritional guidelines.
